How to choose a Bucks County roofing contractor
Start with the basics. Ask for the Pennsylvania home improvement registration number and proof of insurance. Ask who will do the work and who to call if something goes wrong later.
Then compare plans, not just numbers. A good plan lists the roof material, whether the old roof comes off, and the new flashing, underlayment, ice barrier, and vents. A plan that skips these can look cheaper and leak sooner.
Last, ask about your roof type. A crew that does great shingle work may not know slate. If you have slate, cedar, or copper, ask how they handle it.
One county, many kinds of roofs
Bucks County homes come in every style, so roofs do too. You will see asphalt shingles, natural slate, cedar shake, standing seam metal, and copper trim.
Each one needs different care. Shingles need the right nailing and airflow. Slate should not be walked on and should be fixed with hooks, not tar. Cedar needs to dry out. Metal needs good seams and fasteners.
Permits and historic districts
Every borough and township in Bucks County sets its own permit steps. Some also have historic districts with review for exterior changes. Doylestown Borough and New Hope Borough are two examples.
Before you plan a roof job, call your local office. Our town pages link to the official pages we have found for each place we serve.
Roof repair or a new roof?
If your roof is fairly young and the problem is in one spot, a repair is usually right. If the whole roof is worn and leaking in many places, a new roof may save money over time.
Not sure? A roof inspection gives you photos and a plain answer.
Storm help across the county
If water is coming in, call right away. A tarp or quick patch protects your home until the full repair can be done in dry weather.
Take dated photos before anything is moved. They help plan the repair and help if you file an insurance claim.
